Summary
Our plans include critical investment in our corporate systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose and reducing the manual input required. Equally, there is ongoing development of the way the department delivers its policy outcomes via digital and data services, using AI where needed to maximise the value these can bring to users in the department or throughout the society we serve.
Aligned with the productive and agile state agenda, we embed DDaT expertise across departmental teams to enable early engagement with policy development, to support cost-effective delivery.
You will help develop, shape and assure work from idea to delivery on products and services across the department. You will work alongside our Head of Product and User Experience to shape our product strategy and develop a product community of practice. You will be responsible for a portfolio of products, ensuring appropriate delivery methods are being used. You will work with DDaT colleagues and policy and operational teams to ensure effective prioritisation of our work and to help achieve DCMS outcomes. You will have expert product management skills and use your knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame problems and set priorities for delivery. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to do this. There will be times where you are working autonomously with third party suppliers, and other parts of DCMS. You will provide informal coaching, product leadership and direction across multiple teams, and work with non-DDaT Service Owners to achieve policy outcomes. You will help determine the right development path, and support teams to evaluate progress through the product’s life, introducing new and innovative approaches to achieve the right outcomes, while advocating the use of existing shared government platforms and services. You are a recognised expert, and advocate for digital approaches to product delivery, even when stakeholders may have different, established ways of working. You will be expected to be able to evidence the skills as outlined in the DDaT capability framework, for a Lead Product Manager, which will include:
- Developing and managing multiple products across our portfolio
- Coaching policy officials to apply product thinking to developing digital solutions to deliver policy outcomes. Ensuring products and services are designed and delivered in a user-centred, robust and resilient way, working in the open with the benefit of agile practice
- Assure overall service delivery by working with colleagues in other expert digital, data and technology practices to comply with the Government Service Standard, technology code of practices, secure by design and departmental information security standards
- Work with commercial colleagues to hire third party delivery teams, when needed and working with the wider Digital and Data team on elements of project and programme management, regular reporting on delivery progress, advising on prioritisation and delivery risk
