ABOUT THE TEMPLE AND ROLE:
Guru Teg Bahadur Gurdwara (GTBG), established in 1977, has been a cornerstone of the Sikh community in Nottingham for nearly five decades. The Gurdwara serves as a sacred place of worship and a vibrant centre for learning, cultural enrichment, and community service. Managed by a dedicated team of volunteers and an elected committee, GTBG operates in the spirit of seva (selfless service), providing spiritual guidance, education, and support to people from all backgrounds.
The Gurdwara operates independently under the guidance of its elected committee while adhering to the spiritual authority and religious direction of the Akal Takht Sahib, Amritsar, ensuring full alignment with Sikh principles and traditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performing daily prayers and religious ceremonies in accordance with Sikh traditions
• Conducting Guru Granth Sahib Ji Prakash daily (morning and evening)
• Reading, reciting, and explaining the Guru Granth Sahib Ji
• Leading prayers, Kirtan, and religious services
• Providing religious teaching and spiritual guidance to the Sangat
• Offering spiritual counselling and pastoral support to community members
• Maintaining cleanliness, sanctity, and order within the Gurdwara premises
• Supporting educational activities, including training and guidance in tabla and vaja for the Sangat as required
• Supporting Head Giani Ji Mukhtiar Singh during Sunday Seva
• Undertaking any other duties related to the spiritual and religious needs of the Gurdwara as directed by the Employer
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
• Sound knowledge of Sikh faith, traditions, and Maryada
• Proven ability to perform Granthi duties independently and respectfully
• Experience in Kirtan and leading congregational prayers
• Strong communication skills and the ability to guide and support the Sangat
• A respectful, disciplined, and community-focused approach to seva
SALARY RANGE: UK National Living/Minimum Wage (currently £12.21 per hour for ages 21+; statutory rates apply for younger workers; reviewed annually)
LOCATION: 36 Church Street, Lenton, Nottingham, NG7 2FF
JOB TYPE: Full-time, permanent. 37.5 hours per week.
