About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Highway Engineer to join a team delivering local authority capital highways maintenance projects. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in improving and maintaining essential transport infrastructure for communities in the Trafford borough.
This position starts as an initial 3-month contract, with rolling extensions and a long-term pipeline of work spanning several years, offering excellent stability for the right candidate.
As a Senior Highway Engineer, you will lead the design, delivery and project management of highway maintenance schemes, ensuring compliance with current standards and best practices. You will work closely with local authorities, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of highway maintenance and improvement schemes.
  • Prepare detailed designs, drawings, and specifications in accordance with DMRB and local authority standards.
  • Manage project delivery from feasibility through to delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Monitor budgets, schedules, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.


About You

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in highways design and maintenance projects, ideally within a local authority context.
  • Strong knowledge of UK design standards and specifications (DMRB, MCHW, CDM Regulations).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD)
