A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Respiratory Department based at Watford General Hospital and the post-holder will be accountable to the relevant Respiratory Consultant on their ward.
Doctors are expected to become competent at organising the day-to-day duties of the clinical areas.
The post-holder will be expected to work closely with appropriate nursing, professional, technical, and administrative and support staff.
The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring adequate clinical notes are made in accordance with good medical practice.
The post-holder may, on occasions, be asked to assist in the teaching of medical students.
As an ST3 Respiratory Doctor, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of high-quality respiratory care. You will:
Manage and review inpatients under the care of the respiratory team, including acute admissions and patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
Support the running of outpatient clinics and diagnostics such as pleural procedures, bronchoscopy, and lung function testing.Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, case discussions, and ward rounds.
Contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching of junior colleagues and students.
Work collaboratively with the wider medical and nursing teams to ensure patient safety, continuity of care, and service efficiency.
With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of consultants, specialist nurses, and physiologists to deliver high-quality care across outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and specialist asthma services.
They will have the opportunity to develop expertise in lung cancer pathways, contribute to ongoing service development and transformation projects, and engage in clinical research activities. The role also includes participation in medical education, including the supervision and training of junior doctors, as well as attendance at weekly departmental teaching sessions.
This position is well-suited for individuals pursuing a career in respiratory medicine and offers structuredlearning,mentorship, and the opportunity to contribute to national asthma guidelines and audits.
