This is a great opportunity for a Band 6 Diagnostic Radiographer.
We would like to invite you to join our friendly, dynamic team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We host diagnostic services in four sites offering clinical services across a diverse range of specialities. The role is 37.5 hours per week and involves working across 7 days including nights and on call at Wrightington.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Band 6 General Radiographer. New team members will be supported with a structured induction, and support from all members of the Radiology team. New team members are supported and encouraged to develop their radiography and patient care skills.
Successful candidates will be able to gain a wide range of experience. This will include trauma imaging, general and specialist orthopaedic imaging, theatre and mobile imaging, paediatrics, fluoroscopy, and dental radiography. We are committed to providing increased opportunities to gain more experience in specialised areas and are introducing rotation into both DEXA and Nuclear Medicine. We have a fantastic reporting radiographer team, as well as advanced clinical practitioners performing GI fluoroscopy procedures.
This position carries a commitment to flexible working hours and will include on-call at Wrightington across a 7-day working week.

Wrightington Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence delivers world renowned innovations in orthopaedic care from some of the UK’s leading Consultants, many whom have an international reputation for surgical excellence.
At the Thomas Linacre Outpatient centre we image a variety of GP and patients from the outpatient clinics.
Leigh Infirmary has been chosen as the location of our new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre. The existing General Radiography rooms are to be replaced with high specification Digital Radiography equipment to image patients referred from Primary Care, patients from the Walk in Centre and outpatient clinics.
The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary provides a base for emergency and acute work. The department hosts an interventional suite which offers the opportunity of rotation as well as general fluoroscopic techniques that are delivered in two recently upgraded fluoroscopy rooms. The team undertake a range of procedures. The department includes 5 plain film imaging rooms. It is a busy department offering a range of experience. The Wigan site manages patients from a wide range of clinical specialities including Surgery, Medicine, Critical Care and Paediatrics. The site is a designated Trauma Unit which supports the Greater Manchester Trauma Network. The service has a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Care Unit with a large Maternity Unit and Paediatric ward. Staff may attend these areas to perform mobile imaging, including neonatal imaging.

On-Call
Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key results from the job holder
§ Have high visual skills for imaging interpretation
§ To perform radiography as required in keeping with Departmental protocols.
§ To set high standards of radiography as determined by Standard Procedures and Directorate Policies
§ To be responsible for the correct care of patients attending for diagnostic imaging.
§ It is an essential requirement to participate in out of hours on-call service.
§ To act in a responsible way in matters of radiation protection for staff and patients. To seek help from Radiation Protection Supervisor when required. To follow the local rules at all times. To fully observe the Ionising Radiation (medical Exposure) Regulation 2017
§ To report all equipment faults.
§ To ensure high standards of image quality.
§ Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
§ To be responsible for ensuring that the correct staff to patient ratio is maintained within existing resources at any given time across all four sites when operating as the senior in charge
§ To liaise with other lead radiographers across one or all four sites to maintain adequate and safe staffing levels on a daily basis
§ To be flexible to changes in service demands, undertaking from a range of possibilities, any combination of the following duties: -
§ Rotation into other imaging modalities
§ RED DOT – image interpretation
§ Quality Assurance
§ Student Training / Assessing
§ Exercise judgement based on knowledge and experience in order to assess and interpret patient condition and amend technique/protocol from a range of alternatives.
§ To ensure Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS) images are in keeping with standards required in department protocols.
§ To assess a radiological referral is relevant in keeping from Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER) 2017
§ Have a high level of dexterity, correlation and sensory skills and a high level of co-ordination in order to do complex physical skills to manipulate patients safely for positioning and equipment with precision on a daily basis.
§ To be able to demonstrate a high degree of physical co-ordination in order to be able to use keyboard skills to manipulate images and for data entry.
§ Have high visual skills for imaging interpretation.
§ To raise and highlight any issues/problems within the Department to the appropriate person.
Planning and Organisational Duties
§ To plan and prioritise own workload, taking into account clinical and service needs across all modalities and all sites
§ To maintain quality control procedures.
§ To co-ordinate department demands for portering services.
§ To participate in an effective patient appointment system.
§ To provide cover for colleagues as directed by the line manager.
§ To become familiar with the location of departmental resources.
§ To co-ordinate efficient running of the Radiology Department.
§ To know protocols/procedures should a breakdown or a fault occur related to the Department.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
§ Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills in order to exchange information with patients who may have a variety of barriers to understand, often in distressing or emotive circumstances.
§ To assist and offer advice to clinicians, wards and departments on the practical application for IRMER 2017 x-rays and IRR2017
§ To assist and offer advice to clinicians, wards and departments on the administration of the PACS system.
§ To maintain a professional demeanour, attitude and outlook at all times with all colleagues within the Trust.
§ To deal with potentially malicious conversations liable to undermine the service or an individual.

§ To ensure the responsible use of all radiology equipment and resources

§ To support the department induction process for new work colleagues.
§ To supervise junior members of trust in the performance of their duties.
