Summary
Join RPS, a Tetra Tech company to make a real difference. Our work leverages cutting-edge technologies, advanced analytics, and the expertise of world-class scientists and engineers to create meaningful change around the world. Discover your full potential – join us to grow your career while leaving a lasting legacy.
What you will be doing:
Senior Survey Coordinator within RPS’s Ecology team, you will lead the planning, booking and delivery coordination of ecological survey programmes across renewables, residential, commercial and transport sectors. Working from a regional office base, you will ensure efficient mobilisation of field teams and subcontractors, timely completion of seasonal surveys, and clear communication of survey progress to project managers and clients.
You will provide day-to-day operational oversight of survey logistics, improve coordination workflows, and act as the primary administrative and operational contact for complex, multi-site survey campaigns.
Coordinate and schedule multiple, concurrent ecology survey programmes (e.g., bats, breeding birds, reptiles, great crested newts, NVC) across the GB portfolio, ensuring optimal resourcing and compliance with seasonal windows.
Manage the engagement, briefing and deployment of internal survey staff and specialist subcontractors including arranging access, permissions, and on-site logistics.
Serve as principal point of contact for survey logistics with clients, landowners, statutory consultees and supply-chain partners; negotiate access and resolve scheduling constraints promptly.
Maintain detailed survey programmes, calendars and resource plans; update project teams on progress, risks and any required contingency actions.
Prepare and maintain administrative project documentation relating to surveys, including survey briefs, equipment checklists, travel arrangements, permits, access agreements and health & safety documentation.
Liaise with project managers to align survey outputs with reporting programmes and deliverable deadlines; escalate conflicts to directors and recommend practical mitigation.
Implement and continually improve coordination processes, templates and data-capture workflows (including use of mobile data-collection tools and GIS where used) to increase efficiency and reduce risk of missed survey windows.
Monitor and report on survey budgets and timesheet inputs for survey coordination activities; support finance colleagues with invoicing queries relating to subcontractors and survey mobilisation.
Provide supervision, guidance and training to junior coordinators and administrative staff to maintain consistent standards across the team.
Support tendering and bid preparation by providing reliable survey scheduling input, resource estimates and practical delivery considerations.
Who we are looking for:
Proven experience in coordination, scheduling or project support roles, ideally within environmental consultancy, surveying, or construction sectors.
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and seasonal constraints.
Strong communicator, confident liaising with clients, landowners, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
Practical problem-solver who can make timely decisions to re-sequence survey programmes and manage access challenges.
Competent with standard office IT systems (MS Office suite) and comfortable adopting project management tools, online calendars and mobile data-capture systems; GIS awareness desirable.
Working knowledge of ecological survey seasonality and general constraints is beneficial but not essential; ecology field skills are advantageous but not required.
Good written skills for preparing clear briefs, logistical instructions and progress updates.
Ability to travel regionally for site meetings and occasional overnight stays; full driving licence preferred.
Desirable:
Experience working with subcontractor frameworks and managing third-party suppliers.
Familiarity with post-construction reporting workflows and basic understanding of ecological survey methodologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree in Field of Study or a related field.
