Summary

Cockermouth Town Council has an exciting opportunity for a confident and reliable person to join our small team at the Town Hall on Market Street in Cockermouth, in this varied and interesting role.
The hours are 25 per week, however the applicant must be prepared to work extra hours when necessary, during busy periods, with time off in lieu. Some weekend working will be required. Starting salary is SCP7 (£13.69 per hour), potentially rising to SCP10 (£14.35 per hour), subject to satisfactory performance and development. Hours can be flexible subject to the week’s key priorities.
The role involves helping to set up and run the council’s signature events throughout the year; including the well-known Family fun day, Fireworks display and Christmas lights switch on day. Assisting with wedding room hire at the Town Hall, which includes managing booking forms, greeting couples upon arrival, and operating the music system during ceremonies. Maintaining the allotment register and waiting list and carrying out periodic inspections of the gardens.
We are looking for a confident and friendly individual to join our team. The ideal candidate thrives in a people-facing role, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills while being comfortable working on their own initiative. The ability to communicate clearly with the ability to keep calm under pressure is essential for navigating challenging situations with professionalism and composure. We value honesty and reliability highly, as these qualities are crucial for building trust with both the public and colleagues. Furthermore, strong administrative skills are essential; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required for managing various documents and data efficiently.
In return, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support our employees' well-being and future security. This includes access to the valuable Local Government Pension Scheme and an enhanced sick pay and benefits scheme, which operates in line with the established NJC Green Book terms.
You will receive a generous starting holiday allowance of 23 days per year, in addition to two statutory days and all eight bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff). Furthermore, your commitment is rewarded with an additional three days of annual leave after five years of continuous service. If you possess these qualities and are ready to contribute to a dynamic environment, we encourage you to apply.
