Breathing Space is a Together for Children funded initiative that provides valuable space, time and support for young people with additional needs who are at risk of suspension/exclusion.
Breathing Space offers positive experiences and opportunities to improve emotional wellbeing and support young people to remain in education.
Requirements
Could you be a positive role model for a young person in need of support?
Together for Children is looking for compassionate, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Breathing Space project as Mentors. This rewarding role involves providing 1-to-1 support to young people aged School Years 5 to 9 who are at risk of suspension or exclusion and may have a diagnosis or be on the pathway for Autism and/or SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs).
As a mentor, you’ll help create a safe, supportive space where young people can build confidence, develop social skills, and stay connected to education.
What You’ll Do
Meet weekly with a young person for 12 weeks
Take part in fun, interest-based activities in the community
Build a trusting, supportive relationship
Encourage participation in positive, structured opportunities
Provide emotional support and be a consistent, positive presence
Complete short session reflections and manage a small activity budget

The successful applicants will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure.
Volunteers undergo a comprehensive induction training package, and an interview before an appointment is offered. Mileage/expenses are paid.
