About the role
As part of TFC’s Children’s Sensory Inclusion Team, you’ll work across all age ranges, supporting learners to achieve their full potential. You’ll be part of a strong, collaborative network of Teachers of Deaf children across the region, sharing expertise and innovative practice. In this role, you’ll play a vital part in ensuring inclusion and access for deaf learners, providing advice and support to families, schools, and other professionals.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
We want you to apply if you have the following qualifications, knowledge and experience:
Maths and English at GCSE Grade 4 / C (or equivalent)
Qualified Teacher Status (Early Years, primary or secondary)
Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children (or currently working towards Mandatory training)
British Sign Language at Level 2 as a minimum (Level is 3 desirable) (or a commitment to work towards)
Relevant and recent experience of working with Deaf children / children with hearing loss and a good understanding of the impact that this can have on access to learning and education
Working within the Specialist Deaf curriculum framework and NatSIP guidelines
Working with children who have a range of complex SEND needs in addition to a Primary Need of deafness / Hearing loss
Working with children who have multi-sensory impairment (desirable)
Relevant experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs in an educational context to reduce barriers to inclusion, facilitate learning and encourage independence
Teaching and Supporting children who communicate through BSL and / or sign supported English
Knowledge of current legislation regarding SEND Statutory processes including SEND Code of Practice
Ability to moderate language using (sign), speech and the written form to meet a range of different communication styles and needs
Knowledge of the Early Years / National Curriculum
