Summary
Background:
• We are a retired professional couple, who both have various health issues and disabilities.
• I am the only one who does anything in the house
• I have fractured my spine in 3 places and struggling with bending and lifting.
• I have emphysema which means I have breathing problems and have been hospitalised for coughing up blood in the past.
• I am recovering from a recent long illness from which I feel very drained and subsequently struggling with every day activities.
• Following this illness I have damaged my vocal cords, which has left me with problems talking, so would prefer to do most of the interview process by email.
• I do not use a mobile so you may need access to an appliance that opens attachments.
• We have been assessed by social services.
• This job comes under the ‘Direct Payments’ scheme run by Norfolk County Council (NCC), which is a scheme to offer practical help in the homes of people with disabilities to help them get back on track and live a better quality of life.
Summary Terms and Conditions:
• This is a self employed position only and you will be expected to register for self employment if you haven’t already done so.
• The rate for this position is £19.50 per hour. The enhanced rate of pay is to cover a very high standard of work
• 10 hours per week over 2 days
• Mondays or Tuesday and Friday
• Times are 10 am – 3.30 pm (to include lunch break)
• (However, if you prefer to work through your lunch break and leave at 3pm that would be acceptable).
• NB: Workers have the right to one uninterrupted 20 minute rest break during their working day, if they work more than 6 hours a day. This could be a tea or lunch break. The break doesn’t have to be paid - it depends on their employment contract. Domestic workers in a private house (e.g. a cleaner or au pair) aren’t entitled to rest breaks for Health and Safety reasons (https://www.gov.uk/rest-breaks-work).
• You will be paid every 4 weeks by BACS following an invoice submitted to me.
• Invoice dates will be provided and you will be paid 48 hours from receipt of invoice.
• You will need to supply bank account details on the first day to set up payment scheme.
• NB: I CANNOT pay cash in hand
• You are not required to work bank holidays or weekends
• NB: It may be possible that we cannot make a day you are meant to work, due to health related issues or appointments, in which case an alternative day may be offered to you to work during the week. Please note these will be based on our availability
• We can provide hot or cold drinks throughout the day.
• We would appreciate that you do not use your mobile, during working hours, to make personal calls, check messages or use social media. Thank you.
• Position subject to a probationary period of 6 months
Job Description:
Duties and responsibilities to include but not limited to:
• The nature of the job would consist of supporting us with housekeeping and other things we are struggling with, to enable us to live a more independent life.
• To undertake domestic tasks which require heavier lifting including moving furniture to clean, use of a step ladder, hanging curtains
• Changing sheets weekly, dusting, sweeping, polishing, cleaning windows, mopping and vacuuming designated areas to a very high standard.
• Ensuring surface areas, floors, hand rails, door knobs, and other touch points are sanitised weekly.
• Help with food preparation but NO cooking, help with sorting out fridge and freezers, occasionally bringing in heavy shopping from the car
• Carrying things up and down the stairs when required.
• Occasional ironing.
• Emptying and disposing of bin waste and putting recycling into wheelie bins.
• Taking wheelie bins to designated emptying spot down the drive and returned back to the house when emptied, every week.
• Occasional help with light gardening such as weeding and watering flower pots, picking up rubbish in the garden
• Performing additional cleaning duties as and when required.

• You must be a Non smoker from a non smoking home as I have emphysema and the smell of cigarette smoke on people’s breath and clothes starts me coughing, I have been hospitalised in the past for coughing up blood.
• You will need a full driving licence and your own vehicle as we are very rural and not on a bus route or near public transport.
• Good timekeeping is expected so we would appreciate it if you arrive at least 10 minutes early for a prompt start. (If you are late for any reason then you will be expected to make up this time at the end of the shift)
• A very high standard of work is required
• Some days it is a struggle to get out of bed, so someone who is proactive, and can use their initiative by anticipating the areas we struggle with and deal with these issues accordingly without continually asking, ‘what else do you want me to do’ is essential
• Have organisational skills and good attention to detail
• Have a flexible approach to working
• Have a good understanding of Health and Safety and work accordingly.
• Likes animals, as we have 2 Labradors, 2 cats and 2 peacocks
• Respectful of confidentiality
• Able to listen and follow instructions
• Non judgmental
• Respectful behaviour at all times
• Expected to work unsupervised
