About Mum
Our mum is 80, active, sociable, and living with mid stage dementia (she isn’t wholly aware of it). We’re seeking a kind, reliable companion to help her keep a full, enjoyable routine, stay safe, and feel connected.
What you’ll do
• Companionship: cups of tea and a chat; encourage calls to friends; gentle walks, outings, crosswords, magazines and clubs/hobbies.
• Medication prompts: remind, collect repeats, keep medicines safe (no complex admin).
• Personal care encouragement: prompt and support regular baths.
• Meals & home help: prepare simple meals, light household tasks, keep the kitchen tidy.
• Out & about: shopping trips, social calls, appointments (own car helpful; car can be provided).
• Organisation: check post and pass on key info; keep calendar up to date and ensure appointments are kept; plan simple weekly menus and maintain a small shopping list (milk, cereal, fruit, bread, ham/cheese, coffee, easy dinners such as cooked chicken/pasta/fish, plus wine; household essentials like loo roll and washing tabs).
• Household reminders: put bins out to the front (Tuesday collection day) and prompt Mum.
Hours
• Minimum 3–4 hours per day, ideally six days a week (flexible around lunch and dinner coverage).
• We welcome applicants who can cover specific days; we may appoint 2–3 carers to cover the week.
• Hours may increase over time.
What we offer
• Great hourly rate
• Flexible hours day to day (ensuring lunch/dinner times are covered)
• Free accommodation/own room if live in
• Supportive family, clear routines, and the satisfaction of making a real difference daily
About you
• Mature, naturally caring, discreet, and dependable
• Some care experience (dementia experience ideal)
• Driving licence (own car advantageous; car can be provided)
• DBS check (current) and right to work in the UK
• Reasonable academic achievement; Health & Social Care qualifications welcome but not essential
• Comfortable preparing simple meals and keeping a small home running smoothly
• Professional standards and integrity
