An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a forward-thinking, RCVS accredited 24-hour small animal hospital in the heart of Shrewsbury. As part of an expansion of services, this role offers genuine flexibility—whether a vet’s passion lies in first opinion practice, referral work, or a blend of both, the practice is keen to shape the role around individual interests and strengths. Consulting-only and referral-only roles can also be accommodated.
Located in the historic market town of Shrewsbury—renowned for its stunning Tudor architecture, winding cobbled streets, independent shops, vibrant food scene and beautiful riverside walks along the River Severn—this is a location that many vets move to for work and never leave. Beyond the town, the Shropshire countryside offers outstanding natural beauty, with Wales on the doorstep and the Welsh coast less than two hours away.
The hospital is exceptionally well equipped and supported by a highly skilled nursing team, many of whom are either qualified in or currently undertaking certificates in areas such as anaesthesia and analgesia, and medical and surgical nursing. The practice sees a varied caseload, including first opinion work and transferred referral patients across imaging, medicine, cardiology and surgery.
Facilities include:
• CT scanner and visiting MRI
• Rigid and flexible endoscopy
• 2022 ultrasound scanner
• Digital and dental radiography
• Multiparameter GA monitoring, electrocautery, tonometry and hydrotherapy
• Comprehensive in-house laboratory (biochemistry, haematology, clotting times, blood gases and lactate)
• In-house microscopy and Imagyst, providing rapid access to specialist cytology and faecal analysis within the hour

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week over four days, with a 1 in 6 weekend rota. Bank Holiday cover is shared across the wider regional and hospital teams and typically equates to one shift or fewer per year—supporting a strong work–life balance.
