BCI is a specialist post-16 SEND provision delivering creative media pathways alongside core learning and preparing for adulthood outcomes. We work with learners aged 16–25 with a wide range of additional needs, supporting engagement, progress, wellbeing and future destinations.

Purpose of the Governing Board
Governors provide strategic oversight, accountability, and constructive challenge to senior leadership. Governors help ensure:
• learners are safe, supported and progressing
• The curriculum and provision are high quality
• compliance and risk are managed
• resources are sustainable and transparent
• stakeholder voice is heard (learners, parents/carers, local partners)

Roles we are recruiting
We are seeking governors with strength in one or more of the following areas:
• Safeguarding & Student Protection (Link Governor)
• SEND, Curriculum & Quality
• Finance & Resources (Treasurer-style)
• Health & Safety / Premises
• HR, Staffing & Wellbeing
• Compliance, GDPR & Risk
• Therapies/SEMH & Pastoral
• Careers, Employer Engagement & Preparing for Adulthood
• Parent/Carer Voice / Community Engagement

What governors do (and don’t do)
Do: set direction, scrutinise performance, monitor risk, check compliance, assure safeguarding, ask the right questions.
Don’t: manage staff day-to-day, investigate individual cases alone, or take operational decisions.

Time commitment
• Full board: 3–6 meetings per year (typically 2 hours)
• Committee: 3–4 meetings per year (typically 90 mins)
• Link visits: 1–3 per year (arranged with the Principal/DSL)
• Reading time: papers circulated in advance

Checks and eligibility
• Enhanced DBS (required)
• Declaration of interests (conflicts)
• Agreement to uphold safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection
• Willingness to undertake induction/training (safeguarding, governance basics)
What we offer
• A meaningful role improving outcomes for SEND learners
• Induction, a governor handbook, training and ongoing support
• A clear governance calendar and structured reporting
