Closing Date: Friday 2 January 2026 Interviews: Week commencing 12 January 2026 About the Role:The Pre-Construction Fire Safety Manager plays a critical role in embedding fire safety into the design and planning stages of the Sizewell C infrastructure project. This position focuses on developing fire engineering strategies, reviewing designs for compliance with UK legislation (including the Building Safety Act 2022), and proactively identifying and eliminating fire-related risks before construction begins.Working closely with contractors, stakeholders, and the wider Pre-Construction Planning Team, you will support the implementation of the site-wide fire safety strategy and contribute to a positive fire safety culture across the entire project lifecycle. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop Fire Safety Strategies: Create and review fire engineering strategies and reports to ensure compliance with UK legislation, Sizewell C requirements, and nuclear licence conditions.Design Risk Mitigation: Identify and design out fire safety risks early in planning and design phases, integrating constructability, maintainability, and operability considerations.Stakeholder Engagement: Attend design team meetings and safety forums, providing expert input and technical presentations to align fire strategies with project goals.Project Management: Oversee multiple fire engineering projects from concept through pre-construction delivery, preparing detailed scopes, tracking progress, and ensuring quality documentation.Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Support team development through training, succession planning, and continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging lessons learned from major projects like Hinkley Point C.Compliance & Assurance: Ensure all fire safety strategies meet UK fire safety legislation and compliance frameworks, including the Building Safety Act 2022.What You’ll BringEssential:Comprehensive understanding of UK fire safety legislation and compliance frameworks, including the Building Safety Act 2022.Proven ability to develop and implement fire strategies that proactively design out fire and life safety risks during early project stages.Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams.Demonstrated project management and organisational capabilities, managing multiple deliverables under tight deadlines.Expertise in risk identification and mitigation during pre-construction phases.Ability to specify construction sequences to improve fire safety and facilitate safe evacuation and operational response.Strong IT and communication skills.Desirable:Experience in nuclear energy or similarly regulated, high-risk environments.Strong numerical and analytical skills for decision-making and risk management.Experience in engineering design and risk-based planning.Ability to influence a positive fire safety culture across diverse teams.Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline (BSc, BEng) Qualifications & ExperienceEssentialMinimum of a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (Fire Inspectors) or a Level 5 Diploma: Fire Engineering Design is preferred.NEBOSH Fire Risk Assessment Certificate or equivalent.Membership of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or an equivalent professional body.Demonstrated professional attitude and commitment to competence through active membership in a recognised fire safety organisation.DesirableExperience in construction environments.NEBOSH Construction Certificate or European equivalent.Degree in Fire Engineering or a related Engineering discipline (BSc, BEng) desirable but not essential.
