Summary

Job title: Student Support Worker Salary: CSET 9, £28,598 FTE, £18,614 prorated for 35 hours TTO. Hours: full time and part time considered. Up to 35 hours per week. (please specify on your application form) Working weeks: 39 weeks per year (term time only + INSET) Contract type: Fixed term until 31st August 2026. Location: Mangotsfield School, BS16 9LH About the Role This is a hands-on role where you’ll be at the heart of supporting vulnerable students to thrive. You’ll supervise students to create a safe and positive environment, helping them to improve behaviour and achieve their full potential. Key responsibilities include: Delivering individual and small group interventions to boost engagement, attendance, confidence, and self-esteem. Working closely with school staff, families, and external agencies to provide consistent support and access to specialist services. Monitoring and evaluating interventions, keeping clear records and reporting progress to the Behaviour Lead and senior leadership team. Supporting behaviour management systems, including ready to learn supervision and lunchtime duties. Being part of our first aid team, responding to illness and injury when needed. Investigating incidents, liaising with parents, and providing ongoing support to students. This role is key to our student-centred approach, where every young person has the opportunity to thrive. You’ll be part of a dedicated team that values collaboration, compassion, and commitment to excellence. About You You are a natural role model who thrives on making a difference in young people’s lives. Personable, approachable, and a self-starter, you bring energy and empathy to every interaction. You’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students, and you have the resilience to remain calm and de-escalate challenging situations while maintaining confidentiality. You’ll have: Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively. A tactful, polite, and helpful manner when working with colleagues, parents, pupils, and senior leaders. The confidence to manage your own workload and meet deadlines. A willingness to learn and develop new skills. Experience of supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged students, ideally backed by NVQ Level 3 in Learning Development and Support Services (or equivalent experience). Above all, you’ll be motivated by helping students overcome barriers to learning, building their confidence, and enabling them to reach their full potential.
