Crynodeb

This is a full-time, reduced year role: 37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year.
Join the Independent Learning (ilearn) team at Leeds City College as an ilearn Mentor.
The core of this role is to support students in developing essential independent skills to enhance their future prospects. You will achieve this by supporting students in both classroom and one-to-one settings, closely planning, differentiating, and delivering lessons to support curriculum skills needs and the overall student journey. As part of the team, you will provide a visible, welcoming, and supportive presence in iLearn hubs and other college study spaces across different sites and campuses.
The interview for this role will be held in January 2026.
What You Will Do
Plan and deliver engaging workshops, support sessions, and one-to-one sessions (1-2-1s) to develop students' independent learning, digital, and general study skills.
Create high-quality, simple-to-use learning resources, induction materials, and guides for student use.
Effectively manage a student caseload, scheduling appointments and monitoring progress using internal systems (ProMon, Navigate).
Actively promote the development of Independent learning skills, along with English and maths skills, to all students.
Provide a welcoming and supportive presence, helping to maintain a positive, safe, and appropriate environment for study in ilearn hubs and other college study spaces.
Support students by maintaining hub-related resources, including books, Chromebooks, and e-resources.
About You
We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate the following essential requirements:
Possess English, Mathematics, and IT skills at Level 2 or above, or be willing to work towards this. A Level 3 qualification or equivalent work-related experience is also essential.
Proven, recent experience of supporting and resourcing effective learning strategies in a Further Education (FE) or Higher Education (HE) setting.
Significant experience of working successfully with diverse groups of students and within a team, in a supporting role for other service users.
Good knowledge and experience of technology and its use in supporting learning (e.g., Google Educator/Trainer or willingness to work towards this).
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and negotiating skills, with the ability to influence others to achieve positive outcomes.
Ability to make sense of complex issues, identify and solve problems, and demonstrate effective action to affect the behaviour and decisions of learners.
A strong commitment to the promotion of equality, diversity, inclusion, the PREVENT agenda, and a safe learning environment.
