The Derbyshire Independent Advocacy service is an in-house advocacy service available to vulnerable children and young people from 0-25 (if they have SEND) across Derbyshire. The role focuses on supporting individual children and young people to have their say about issues that are important to them, share their views and ensure that they can be an active part of planning and meetings.

The service is open to all vulnerable children and young people from Derbyshire wherever they may be living. Including those involved in child protection processes, child in need, children in care and care experienced young people. We also support children and young people with SEND and social, emotional and mental health challenges. We support young people involved with youth justice, welfare secure processes, court processes for their own children and unaccompanied asylum seeking young people with age assessments. Alongside young people with issues around education, healthcare and other challenges for children and young people.

We need advocates who are independent from the local authority, willing to travel and work at times that are accessible to children and young people. A genuine value of wanting to support children and young people is essential with listening skills and confidence to promote their views to professionals key to the role. The role is subject to safer recruitment processes including an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
