Summary


Dermatology Department consists of specialty clinics providing diagnostic and therapeutic treatments, including a phototherapy service, day care topical treatments, dermatology minor surgery, phototherapy, Iontophoresis, photodynamic therapy (PDT), complex wound management, cryotherapy, skin camouflage (as per service needs).

Our Dermatology service provides services across three sites, St Georges, Queen Mary’s hospital and the Nelson community hospital....

The CNS nurses working in Dermatology provide a variety of nurse led clinics and therefore all nursing staff are given the opportunity to acquire new skills and develop their expertise within this specialty. The Dermatology Unit at St Georges provides a Monday – Friday service with additional clinics held on a Wednesday evening and Saturday.





· The post holder is responsible for assisting in all areas within Dermatology including Phototherapy, Minor Surgery, dermatology day care treatments including patch testing and Iontophoresis.

· Will be trained to deliver Iontophoresis and assisting in Patch test clinic under the supervision of a registered nurse.

· To deliver topical treatments to patients attending day care unit under the supervision of registered nurse.

· To assist clinicians in Minor Surgery acting as scrub or assisting nurse. Will be prepared to undergone training for this.

· Work within an interdisciplinary team of nursing, medical, paramedical and clerical staff to provide quality patient services.

· Be responsible for the effective assessment of care needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within the department.

· Actively participate in the health promotion and education of clients, carers and relatives where appropriate.

· As part of an interdisciplinary team, provide a broad range of health care activities that will be specified by individual programmes of care for clients

· Provide the relevant support, mentorship, supervision and education tounqualified defined staff groups as required.

· Provide an effective role model, demonstrating the appropriate skills and knowledge.

· Fully achieve and maintain competencies within the competency framework for this post.
