Summary
Patient Preparation and Support Greet patients, verify and confirm their identity through identification checks, and prepare them for clinical examinations or procedures. Explain tests and procedures clearly to patients, ensuring informed consent and helping to reduce anxiety. Assist with mobility, positioning, and comfort of patients during diagnostic procedures. Diagnostic Testing Perform a wide range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests and imaging, such as: Visual acuity testing Intraocular pressure measurement Visual field testing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Fundus photography Accurately document and upload results to electronic patient records. Clinical Support Support the wider multi-professional team during procedures (e.g., minor operations, intravitreal injections). Prepare and maintain clinical rooms and equipment according to infection control standards. Administer eye drops (e.g., dilating or anaesthetic drops) in line with local policy after training and competency assessment. Patient-Centred Care Deliver care in a respectful, compassionate, and dignified manner. Respond sensitively to patients emotional, physical, and cultural needs. Act as a point of contact for patients, providing reassurance and answering basic queries. Team Collaboration Work effectively with the multi-professional team, communicating clearly with colleagues. Report any concerns or abnormal findings to senior staff promptly. Open and close clinics.
