Summary
The After School Club Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, organisation, and day-to-day management of the after-school club, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for children. The role involves staff supervision, program planning, safeguarding, and liaison with parents, schools, and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Management & Leadership
Manage the daily operation of the after school club in line with policies and procedures
Lead, supervise, and support club staff and volunteers
Prepare staff rotas and manage staff deployment
Conduct staff meetings, appraisals, and training where required
Safeguarding & Welfare
Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection are maintained at all times
Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) if required
Ensure health and safety regulations and risk assessments are followed
Maintain accurate records, including attendance and incident reports
Program Planning & Delivery
Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote play, learning, and wellbeing
Encourage children’s social, emotional, and physical development
Ensure inclusive practice for children with additional needs
Administration & Compliance
Manage registrations, bookings, and waiting lists
Ensure compliance with relevant childcare regulations and inspections
Maintain policies, procedures, and required documentation
Support budget management and ordering of resources
Communication & Relationships
Build positive relationships with children, parents/carers, staff, and school personnel
Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child’s care and development
Address parent queries, concerns, or complaints professionally
Person Specification
Essential
Relevant childcare qualification (e.g. Level 3 or above in Childcare/Playwork/Early Years)
Previous experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Desirable
Management qualification or training
Experience managing budgets and administrative systems
First Aid and Safeguarding certificates
Experience working in a school-based setting
