Summary


An exciting opportunity has been developed within our surgical pharmacy team to support the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to surgical pre-assessment and the Day Surgery Unit.

To provide advice on the use of medicines in the perioperative period
Assist with medicines reconciliation within the surgical pre-assessment clinic

The postholder will also be an integral member of the surgical pharmacy team, providing a clinical pharmacy service to a surgical ward, contributing to treatment protocols and guidelines and training and education of staff.

Potential candidates will have a background in clinical pharmacy with some experience surgery. They will ideally have an independent prescribing qualification (or working towards) and have some experience of working in clinics and/or managing own caseload. They will be confident working with a multidisciplinary team and be able to build a good rapport with patients attending the surgical pre-assessment clinic. They will have well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to deliver against key targets and objectives.

Act as a deputy for Principal Pharmacist when necessary
• Regular active participation in speciality ward rounds to support safe and effective use of medicines with these areas
• Participation in pre-operative assessment clinics, taking an accurate medication history and providing advice on the use of medicines in the perioperative period.
• Contributing to evidence based prescribing guidelines
• Effective control of drug expenditure
• Education and training of HCP's within the specialist area
• To act as a clinical role model, and support training and supervision of junior members of the pharmacy team
• Development and implementation of clinical guidelines
• Effective control of drug expenditure and management of processes regarding high-cost drugs
• To participate in audits and practice research
• To work with the clinical risk team to minimise the risk of medicines
