Summary

Ganger/ Charge Hand

Industry: Civil Engineering

Location: Isle of Wight

Hours: 39 hours per week

Days: Monday - Friday

Duration: January 2026, temporary ongoing ( temp to perm for the right candidate)

Duties:

Supervise and coordinate groundworks and highways activities on site.
Control of materials, plant and resources.
Ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to high standards.
Use initiative to solve problems and keep projects on track.
Act as an experienced charge hand, leading by example and maintaining communications with the team, managers and public.

Experience:

Must have proven experience in all aspects of groundworks and highways works including previous experience as a charge hand or similar supervisory role..
Must have a valid NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) accreditation and full driving license.
Must have the ability to lead and manage a team effectively with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
360 excavator / Dumper operation experience with the relevant plant operator tickets is preferred
Experience in hand laying asphalt is an advantage

Salary: £15.00 per hour worked, overtime paid at time and a half PAYE
