About the role
British Creative Institute (BCI) is seeking an experienced HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT/SLT) to provide specialist support to post-16 learners with SEND (16–25). You may already operate as an independent consultant providing services to the education sector—BCI welcomes this, provided you meet compliance and safeguarding requirements.
You will work on-site with learners and staff to support communication, interaction, and functional language needs, helping learners access education and achieve outcomes (including EHCP outcomes where applicable), in a safe, person-centred way aligned to statutory safeguarding expectations for education settings.

Key responsibilities
• Complete screening/assessment of speech, language, communication needs (SLCN) and produce clear, practical recommendations.
• Plan and deliver targeted interventions (1:1 and/or small group) within the weekly on-site hours.
• Produce written reports suitable for education settings (e.g., strategies, outcomes, reasonable adjustments, targets).
• Advise and coach staff on communication-friendly practice, including classroom strategies and differentiation.
• Support learners with a range of needs (e.g., ASD, SEMH, anxiety, trauma-informed needs, sensory profiles, literacy-linked language needs).
• Liaise professionally with parents/carers and external professionals (with appropriate consent and information-sharing protocols).
• Maintain accurate case notes and follow safeguarding and confidentiality requirements expected in colleges.
Essential requirements (must-have)
• HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist (current and in good standing). The SLT title is a regulated/protected professional designation and registrants must practise to HCPC standards. (The HCPC)
• Recognised SaLT qualification (UK-recognised degree/postgraduate route leading to eligibility for HCPC registration).
• Proven, recent experience working with post-16 SEND learners (16–25) in education and/or community settings.
• Ability to produce professional reports and deliver practical, measurable strategies that staff can implement.
• Excellent communication, professional boundaries, and a trauma-informed, learner-centred approach.
Mandatory safeguarding, legal and compliance checks
BCI is committed to safer recruitment and expects the successful consultant to meet education-sector safeguarding requirements, including:
• Enhanced DBS check (and barred list check where the duties meet the threshold for regulated activity). (GOV.UK)
• Right to work in the UK, identity checks, and verification of professional registration/qualifications.
• References: two professional references (and additional references if required to cover gaps in work history).
• Agreement to comply with BCI policies and statutory safeguarding guidance for schools/colleges (including conduct expectations for staff/contractors).
• Understanding of SEND practice across the 0–25 system (including outcomes-focused support alongside EHCP frameworks where relevant). (GOV.UK)
• Professional indemnity insurance (where operating as self-employed/limited company) and secure handling of records/data.
Desirable (nice-to-have)
• Experience contributing to EHCP outcomes, annual reviews, and multi-agency planning.
• Additional training in ASD, selective mutism, dysphagia (if applicable), AAC/total communication approaches, or SEMH-informed practice.
• Experience delivering staff training/briefings in FE or specialist post-16 settings.

How to apply
Please email jobs@fastispeed.com with:
• CV (including post-16 SEND experience)
• HCPC registration number and evidence of current registration
• Short cover note explaining your weekly availability and approach to supporting post-16 learners
• Evidence/examples of relevant report writing (redacted/anonymised)
