Summary

George Street, Newport has opportunity for a motivated and positive Project Worker to join their team on a 6 month fixed-term basis. This is a great opportunity to make a difference to the care leavers accessing the service.

You will also be required to work the occasional weekend shift and may be required to carry out the occasional sleep-in shift depending on the needs of the service.

For this role it is essential that the successful candidate has a driver's license and has access to a car.

What is special about this opportunity?

George Street supports young people, predominantly between the ages of 16-18, who have typically led very difficult lives. Often, they’ve spent their childhood and adolescence in Local Authority care, experiencing many changes of home environment including different residential and foster homes.

The people we support are all Care Leavers who have involvement with Social Services. Many have experienced significant trauma brought on by abuse and neglect in early years. As a result, we work with young people who display a range of complex behaviours including attachment disorders, personality disorders, self-harm and parasuicide, risk taking behaviour, alcohol and substance misuse and offending behaviour.

How can I make a difference?

This opportunity to achieve a rewarding career in support making a difference to the young people accessing our service. You will act as a first point of contact and a role model for the young people we support. You will build positive relationships by helping them make a transition into independent living and advise on move on options. You will provide advice with budgeting and money management, including welfare benefits, as well as support them in a practical way, with regards to day to day living skills.

Project Worker Duties:

Engaging and interacting with our service users
Writing and following a support plan with the individual you are supporting
Risk assessing and writing risk assessments
Delivering workshops relating to tenancy management and health and wellbeing
Liaising with external agencies including Social Services
Carrying out safeguarding referrals
Addressing any additional needs, the people we support might have
Who we are looking for:

Please demonstrate in your application form how you:

Have knowledge of housing related support and benefit systems
Have good organisation, IT and record keeping skills
Can work part of a team and on an individual basis
Deal with difficult situations
Have good listening skills
knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding

This role requires flexibility along with enthusiasm, motivation and creativity. You need the ability to work on your own initiative in a busy and dynamic role as well as being a positive team player.
This role is for a passionate individual who believes they can make a difference to our service users. You will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Shift pattern: the service is staffed 24/7 therefore you will be required to work: Days, sleep-ins and weekend/ Bank holiday availability.
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check, which we pay for
26 days (pro rata) holiday entitlement plus Bank holidays

With the first step being an Engagement session (Morning & Afternoon), giving the chance to view the service, interact with clients & the team. After this, the second step will involve an interview.
