The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to lead the delivery of major rail infrastructure within one of the UK’s largest and most dynamic nuclear infrastructure programmes. As investment increases and the programme accelerates, you’ll step into a role that shapes safe and efficient rail solutions from concept through to handover. You’ll work at scale, influencing multidisciplinary teams, navigating complex interfaces, and driving delivery against ambitious cost, schedule, safety and sustainability objectives. Your duties and responsibilities will be:
- Lead the safe, coordinated and efficient delivery of rail infrastructure within a major off?site delivery programme.
- Develop and execute implementation plans ensuring delivery to cost, schedule, quality and safety targets.
- Manage the full project lifecycle including investigation, design, procurement, enabling works, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Define work scopes and manage interfaces with adjacent projects and wider programme areas.
- Secure resources, ensure SQEP standards, and identify/resolve capability gaps.
- Develop integrated multidisciplinary solutions that align with programme requirements.
- Maintain strong stakeholder engagement (internal teams, regulators, local authorities, contractors).
- Drive safe delivery to technical and sustainability requirements.
- Track and report progress, risks, issues and change controls.
- Maintain Level 3 schedules aligned with Level 1 and Level 2 programme schedules.
- Review contractor schedules and rolling programmes.
- Maintain List of Deliverables (LOD) and apply Earned Value Management.
- Capture lessons learned and promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and audit requirements.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
- Proven experience delivering multidisciplinary rail projects in complex, regulated environments.
- Strong background across engineering design, contract strategies and construction execution planning.
- Experience within EPCM environments.
- Expertise in procurement and management of complex contracts.
- Competence in environmental requirements and their implementation.
- Proficient in cost, risk, schedule and change control including EVM.
- Experience managing claims and commercial negotiations.
- Stakeholder engagement experience with key rail industry bodies and external partners.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex interfaces.
- Working knowledge of rail and Network Rail standards (e.g., GRIP, AMP, DWWP).
- Strong project management, financial management and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with estimating, scheduling and risk tools.
- Experience managing contractors under NEC contracts.
- Skilled in digital project systems (Outlook 365, MS Teams, A?Site, BIM, GIS, Teamcenter).
It’s great if you also have the following:
- Degree?qualified with chartered status (engineering, construction, or related).
- Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) and appropriate CSCS certification.
