Summary

Here on the FfWHR we are looking to consolidate our position as one of the premier tourist attractions in the Top Left Hand Corner of Wales. Our Boston Lodge Engineering Works provides a unique blend of innovative and progressive modern construction and heritage preservation and interpretation. We are pleased to announce a rare and exciting opportunity for someone to join the permanent staff working in this unique environment.

We are looking to recruit a Welder / Fabricator to join our engineering workshop team. The Workshops are responsible for the building and maintaining of the Company’s fleet of steam and diesel locomotives in accordance with current and developing Festiniog Railway Company policies and plans, and also undertake contract work for other Heritage Railways and associated organisations.

This permanent, full time position will be based at Boston Lodge Engineering Works, Minffordd, near Porthmadog.

We can offer you:
• Salaries in the range of £25,900 - £27,560 per annum dependent on experience
• 40 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday, occasional weekend working may be required
• A minimum of 28 days paid holiday, inclusive of all bank and public holidays

Candidates must have an NVQ level 2 or higher in Fabrication and Welding; and be able to use MIG, TIG and arc welding processes. The ability to use plasma and oxy fuel gas cutting processes is desirable. Candidates must be familiar with working to technical fabrication drawings, and using their own initiative to build items as requested from sketches and verbal instructions, with an ability to manufacture to stringent tolerances as each task requires. The successful candidate will show an interest in and aptitude for learning new and different skills in the manufacture of railway locomotives and other associated tasks.

Core Skills:
• NVQ level 2 or higher in Fabrication and Welding, or equivalent qualification
• Proven experience in practical fabrication and metalwork
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Good time management skills
• IT literate
• The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable
