Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for motivated, highly enthusiastic and dynamic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for motivated, highly enthusiastic and dynamic Senior or Intermediate Clinical Coder to join our clinical coding team. We are able to offer 37.5 hours per week working over 5 days (Mon to Friday, part time hours would be considered). flexible working is available, and homeworking is on a rotational basis for Band 5 Senior Clinical Coders. You will be expected to maintain your clinical coding skills and knowledge. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in other coding roles such as audit, training. and mentoring. The successful candidate must have willingness to learn and embrace new experiences.



Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

For the Senior Clinical Coder position (Band 5 + 30% R&R Premium) the successful candidate must have passed the NCCQ examination. An extensive understanding of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and OPCS-4 as well as thorough understanding of national clinical coding standards and conventions is required.

A band 4 intermediate clinical coder position would be considered for any candidates wanting to take the NCCQ examination or awaiting results and with demonstrable recent experience working as a clinical coder within the NHS. Any candidates not wishing to take the NCCQ examination must have significant recent experience within an acute NHS trust clinical coding department.

Candidates must have completed the NHS Digital approved standards / foundation course. Other essential skills include excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with junior clinical coders, auditors and clinicians. If you choose to sit the NCCQ examination, you will be fully supported.
