We have an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Functional Skills Maths to join our expert team within the Access to Further Education provision at Newcastle College. This role is perfect for a teacher who wants to make a meaningful difference by helping learners build confidence, develop essential numeracy skills, and take their next step toward vocational study or higher-level programmes.
As an experienced practitioner, you will bring your enthusiasm and subject knowledge to the classroom, supporting learners who may have been out of education, have had barriers to learning, or need encouragement to re-engage with maths. You will play a crucial role in helping students achieve Functional Skills qualifications that unlock progression onto their chosen FE pathways.
You will have high expectations for your students and be committed to building positive, supportive relationships that enable them to thrive. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Maths department, you will use innovative and accessible teaching approaches to motivate learners, build their confidence, and celebrate their progress.
You will foster an inclusive and encouraging environment where learners of all abilities- including those with SEND or additional support needs-feel safe, valued, and capable of success.
Alongside delivering high-quality Functional Skills sessions, you will contribute to shaping an engaging a responsive curriculum that supports students' transition into vocational study and higher levels of maths. You will work closely with tutors and programme leads to ensure that maths is embedded meaningfully across Access to FE pathways.
