Summary

Clinical This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the life-saving work we do every day in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our donors. The primary focus will be undertaking donor medical assessments including a thorough history and examination (and in the future patients who require autologous collections), They will review results and assess donor suitability for the donation in discussion with the Anthony Nolan medical team prior to peripheral blood stem cell collection. The role will also support the apheresis nursing team caring for patients during the apheresis procedure and managing any severe or atypical complications. The post holder will work alongside clinical fellows in the clinical research facility (CRF) as well as an advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) and the apheresis nursing leads. As the lead clinical fellow for the Cell Collection Centre, they will have also strong links with the Anthony Nolan Registry medical team (based in London). Specific training in the care of stem cell donors will be provided, and they will have the opportunity to collaborate on research and quality improvement projects with the Anthony Nolan medical team. Attending and presenting at meetings is encouraged and supported as part of their professional development within this speciality. It is a collaborative and inspiring environment, where your professional development and contributions are highly valued. As part of the R&I department, the postholder will be able to link with the R&I Haematology Clinical Lead to provide mentorship and guidance for the appointed individual. These clinical duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, their medical colleagues, Anthony Nolan and the Trust. The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of their time to the duties of the post and always give them priority. Governance and Audit Each fellow is expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Teaching Both main campuses of the Trust are major centres for undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching. The successful candidate may be required to play a role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The Trust works to ensure the best possible placements and training for both undergraduates and junior doctors and to ensure consultant trainers & teachers are developed and supported. The Trust facilitates this through agreeing appropriate job plans, a clear framework for the delivery of medical education, and the opportunity to enhance clinical and teaching skills through Continuing Professional Development. Research & Innovation The Trust has extremely close links with Nottingham University and has academic departments in most of its clinical specialties. There are University and Trust research facilities. The Trust has a research strategy and management framework which aligns its funding for research with the research and innovations activities it supports. Staff who wish to undertake research require the approval of the Trust R&I Department and relevant ethical approval and must adhere to the National Framework for Research Governance. The appointee would be expected to provide clinical care and management of patients and donors involved in the delivery of clinical trials relevant to the Anthony Nolan service and in conjunction with NUH trials requiring the support of the cell collection centre.
