Summary

Role Purpose Clinical Leadership: Support Director of Nursing to provide nursing leadership across a portfolio of services, as part of a multi-disciplinary leadership team; ensuring that care is delivered safely and effectively. Team Management: Provide support and guidance to nursing teams including clinical supervision and where required line management supervision, appraisals, facilitate training and act as a role model, demonstrating best practices. Clinical Care: provide direct clinical care, including prescribing interventions, community alcohol detoxification services and health & wellbeing interventions. Key duties and activities of the role To work as part of the multi-disciplinary leadership team across a portfolio of services, driving excellent clinical interventions as part of a holistic approach. To demonstrate and lead the development of strong clinical skills, role modelling and upholding best practice nursing standards in accordance with the principles of Nursing, core capabilities (the pillars of practice), up-to-date evidence based professional practice and Vias programmes and policies. To assess for and provide safe, effective and evidence based clinical interventions for those who use our services requiring stabilisation, detoxification and other clinical support services in relation to their substance use. Assist in the development of systems, pathways and documents that promote holistic delivery of services to people with complex needs (e.g., psychiatry, criminal justice, blood borne viruses). Promote and support the organisational interface for the benefit of people who use our services, for example, with suppliers, primary and secondary care services (including public health, wholesalers, community pharmacy/GPs and hospitals respectively). Contribute to (medicines/drug/devices/infection control etc) alert responses in line with organisational protocols. Be involved in and where appropriate take responsibility for relevant audits, ongoing monitoring and implementation of associated recommendations/action plans aligned to nationally defined performance indicators. Ensure active clinical input, either directly or via nurses within your service portfolio, to internal and external incident/safeguarding/death review processes including mortality reviews, coroners reports/representation and domestic homicide reviews. Working with the multi-disciplinary portfolio team, take responsibility for the implementation of clinical learning within your portfolio and for working with peers across Via to effectively implement learning. Contribute to the collation and use of clinical data and oversee the subsequent improvements/developments to nursing practice required across your portfolio, working closely with operational, data & performance and quality colleagues. Operate as part of a multi-disciplinary leadership team, role modelling effective collaborative leadership and decision-making. Provide leadership to student nurses and nurse apprenticeship pathways, provide competency assessment and training of staff/students/volunteers, identify and support development needs of others and support colleagues to develop in their roles to deliver excellent services. Provide advice and guidance on clinical (including prescribing) issues to staff working in the service portfolio, as well as other colleagues and partner agencies. Where relevant, provide clinical/line management supervision for other staff and support facilitation of relevant meetings/training events. Person specification for the role A registered nurse with the NMC with at least 4 years post registration experience. Registered and competent as a Non-Medical Prescriber. Evidence of having undertaken a leadership course or demonstrable experience in leading a team with a willingness to continue developing in this area of practice Have a passion for working with substance misuse services or with other socially excluded or vulnerable groups. Sound and demonstrable knowledge of clinical/prescribing issues relating to problematic substance use, include appropriate recovery, harm reduction and health promotion interventions. Solution focused with an inclusive and innovative approach to service development. A demonstrable understanding of the Health and Social Care regulatory requirements including the CQC, NICE and any other relevant bodies. Have a sound and demonstrable knowledge of harm reduction and health promotion interventions. Experience of BBV screening and the administration of BBV vaccinations Experience in monitoring community alcohol detoxification and administration of - prophylactic parenteral thiamine Experience in performing an ECG and basic interpretation skills as well as the willingness to develop additional clinical knowledge and skills in line with system, sector and service needs. A demonstratable commitment to working in partnership with other professionals such as criminal justice agencies, primary care, secondary care, commissioners, community groups and other stakeholders to achieve good outcomes for people who use our services. The ability to demonstrate resilience and work calmly under pressure, ensuring that deadlines are met, and ensure all information is recorded in a timely manner. The ability to take responsibility for the clinical leadership of the service and deputise for the Lead Clinician within competency levels. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in different settings and to different groups of people. Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office programs and digital meeting platform and Case Management Systems such as Nebula. Great team working, communication, interpersonal skills and cooperative approach to supporting colleagues and the whole team to deliver organisational objectives, as well as in working directly with people who use our services and their significant others.
