Summary

Job purpose

The Diocese of St. Asaph finds itself in an exciting and challenging time, with a model of church centered around Mission Areas and shared ministry. A crucial element in supporting our churches and their vital work is securing sufficient funding for projects. This ranges from building development and maintenance to mission and social projects within local communities.

As our Funding and Grants Officer, you will play a critical role in securing external funding to expand the reach and strengthen the support offered by our Mission Areas and churches within the community. You will lead efforts to identify, develop and attract successful funding applications.

The role is strategically divided between two core activities:

Guidance and Advisory (Approx. 3 days/week): Educating and advising churches on available funding opportunities and coaching them to develop and submit compelling grant applications.

Direct Bid Writing (Approx. 2 days/week): Independently researching and writing high-quality grant proposals for church groups that lack the capacity or skills to manage the application process themselves.

We are seeking a self-motivated and well-organised individual with excellent administration and communication skills, and a strong understanding of grant-funding processes, to join our small, friendly team at our St Asaph Diocesan office.

Purpose of the role

To act as the central point of contact for all funding matters within the Diocese.

To provide expert advice, information, guidance and funding strategies to churches and Mission Areas. To set clear, realistic expectations for funding and projects.

To support churches and Mission Areas with project planning and the preparation of routine, complex and large-scale grant applications.

To conduct research to identify potential funding sources.

To initiate and manage a comprehensive local database of funding requests, progress and outcomes, including the shared Mission Area Funding database.

ShapeKey responsibilities

To serve as the primary source of communication, advice and guidance on funding matters across the Diocese.

To develop, organise and maintain a library of resources related to funding sources.

To research and maintain up-to-date information on current and future funding opportunities and relevant legislation.

To provide effective and timely communication to the Diocese on funding developments.

To work closely with the Director of Operations regarding projects and funding activities.

To manage records of funding applications, including reviews, follow-ups, and outcomes, to support learning and continuous improvement.

To complete grant applications where appropriate.
