Summary

Electrical Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day maintenance operations within the hospital environment, with a strong focus on Health and Safety (H&S) and compliance as an Authorised Person (AP) for Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) systems. This hands-on role ensures that systems and equipment are maintained safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to hospital services. The Electrical Supervisor provides leadership to a team of electricians and ensures that all work complies with relevant regulations and hospital standards.

Key Responsibilities:

-Supervision of :
-Oversee the execution of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on electrical systems. Ensure work is done safely and to a high standard.

-Provide hands-on supervision to a team of electricians and technicians, ensuring they follow safety protocols, procedures, and technical standards.

-Ensure that the electrical team is effectively addressing all electrical faults, breakdowns, and testing requirements, particularly those affecting critical hospital systems (e.g., operating theatres, ICU, emergency power systems).

-Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing ensuring prompt resolution and within the contractual SLA

-Regularly review the team's workload and prioritise tasks based on urgency and the impact on hospital operations

-Health & Safety (H & S) Focus:
-Lead by example in maintaining a safety-first culture within the team, ensuring compliance with H & S regulations, including Permit to Work systems and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO)

-Regularly inspect work sites and raise Hazard observations for any hazards that need addressing

-Ensure that team members are trained on, and adhere to, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and any issued, task required safety gear.

-Authorised Person :
-Serve as the Authorised Person (AP) for both Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) systems, taking responsibility for ensuring safe isolation and control of electrical equipment.

-Issue and manage Permits to Work for electrical activities, including high-risk tasks such as live switching, ensuring that the correct safety measures are in place.

-Supervise switching operations and planned shutdowns of HV and LV systems, ensuring all work is carried out according to strict safety procedures and Hospital Technical Memoranda (HTM)

-Technical Guidance & Support:
-Provide technical supervision and troubleshooting support to the electrical team for complex issues, ensuring that repairs are completed efficiently and safely.

-Ensure that team members are trained in fault-finding techniques and are competent to handle both routine and emergency repairs.

Requirements:

-Education & Certification:

- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
-City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent certification in electrical testing and inspection.

-18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations

-Authorised Person (AP) certification for LV and HV systems (or willingness to train to AP level).

-Experience:
-Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, with a solid background in working with LV and HV systems in a healthcare or other critical environment.

-Experience as an Authorised Person (AP) or working towards AP status, particularly in the supervision of electrical safety and switching procedures.

-Previous supervisory experience in leading a team of electricians, ensuring work is carried out safely and efficiently.

-Skills:
-Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems

-Excellent supervisory skills

-A strong understanding of risk management and the ability to conduct detailed risk assessments.

-Using maintenance management systems for scheduling and record-keeping.

Desirable:

-Familiarity with hospital standards and guidelines like HTM 06-02 and HTM 06-03.

-Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH) and a thorough understanding of relevant H&S legislation.

-First Aid certification.

Working Conditions:

-Role will commence by shadowing the Senior Electrical Supervisor for a period of time to ensure the candidate is confident and competent in role

-Hospital environment with exposure to high-risk areas such as operating theatres and mechanical plant rooms.

-On-call duties and potential shift work (voluntary shift cover or Overtime) to ensure the continuous availability of electrical services
