Summary

Emergency services are receiving increasing volumes of calls for individuals presenting with acute mental health issues in the community. A significant proportion of emergency services resources is being used to support individuals struggling with their mental health, who often present with complex issues that require further assessment and ongoing support. The Mental Health Urgent Triage Team (MHUT) is a partnership between Pennine Care Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) North-West Ambulance Service (NWAS), and Greater Manchester Police (GMP). You will be based within the clinical hub in NWAS and will have training in the use of the EOC software systems.

The post holder will work with local mental health and emergency services providing an ageless offer to ensure that mental health vulnerability is considered and triaged. High quality information and clinical advice is provided when an individual comes in contact with, or to the attention of, GMP and NWAS where it is believed the individual may be experiencing mental health crisis and require support. The post holder will support the Clinical Manager in carrying continuing professional and managerial responsibility for their clinical area. Contributing to the maintenance of the overall service standards. The post holder will demonstrate an attitude which respects and values service users’ and their carers.
The Practitioners’ base will change rotationally to include NWAS EOC base in Central Manchester and potentially the Middlebrook site. Subject to review, there will be an opportunity to support the Mental Health Joint Response Cars (MHJRC) based at GMP Central Park North Divisional Head Quarters.
The service operates 24/7 7 days a week, 365 days per year and practitioners will need to work within a 24-hour shift pattern. As we are part of the urgent care pathway within GMMH there will be a face-to-face element within this role and you will be expected to participate in other community interventions including acting as first responders, this will involve assessing service users in their homes or community environment. The service is constantly evolving.
