Summary
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a specialist interest in Complex Nutrition. This substantive post offers 10 PAs, combining outpatient clinics—including a dedicated home parenteral nutrition clinic—endoscopy lists with PEG procedures, inpatient care for luminal gastroenterology and complex nutrition, and participation in the upper GI bleed on-call rota. There is scope to develop or continue a secondary subspecialty interest, such as inflammatory bowel disease, general gastroenterology, or research. The successful candidate will work within a large, multidisciplinary gastroenterology team, providing high-quality patient care, clinical supervision, and opportunities for teaching and research.
• Undertake high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy, including PEG insertion and removals.
• Provide specialist outpatient care, with a focus on complex nutrition and the opportunity to develop a secondary subspecialty interest.
• Manage gastroenterology and general medical inpatients on a rotational basis.
• Deliver an advisory inpatient service for patients with complex nutritional requirements.
• Participate in the upper GI bleed on-call rota and weekend ward rounds.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings (MDMs) for complex nutrition and other subspecialty areas.
• Provide clinical supervision and teaching for junior doctors, clinical nurse specialists, and allied health professionals.
• Engage in medical audit, quality improvement, and clinical research activities.
• Participate in the Trust’s consultant appraisal and continuing professional development processes.
