We are delighted to invite applications for a six-month (potentially extendable) fixed-term post in Emergency Medicine.

The successful candidates will join The Royal London’s team of Emergency Medicine specialist clinical fellows. The post is ideal for candidates who have completed the foundation program (or equivalent) have previously worked in emergency medicine and are looking to gain further experience of the specialty in a well-supported teaching hospital and major trauma center environment. It is well suited to those wishing to apply for ACCS and prior holders of the post have had considerable success in this regard.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London.

The post includes SHO (F2-ST1) level duties in the emergency department working on a full shift rota. Clinical duties are supported by 24/7 consultant presence, senior training registrars and a team of junior doctors and practitioners.

The role aims to give the post holder 4 main areas of experience

Supervised clinical experience in emergency medicine including major and moderate medical emergencies across the breadth of emergency medicine.

Developing experience in providing support to more junior clinical colleagues.

Developing supervised experience in running emergency department areas (depending on level of previous experience)

Developing a project portfolio the terms of reference of which will be agreed in collaboration with the post holder


The post/s will have clinical supervision on a day to day basis by the duty emergency medicine consultant. Each post holder will have a named educational supervisor responsible for developmental and pastoral supervision.
The post holder/s will be ultimately responsible to the Clinical lead for emergency medicine.

Clinically the post holder/s will work within a broad clinical team including Consultants in emergency medicine, junior and senior emergency medicine trainees and clinical fellows, and Advanced care practitioners, physicians associates and emergency nurse practitioners.

Treat patients and colleagues with compassion and respect at all times

Deliver safe, and effective clinical care seeing patients within a personal case load seeking support, instruction, and advice from senior clinical team members where required.

Provide safe, and effective clinical care by providing clinical review of patients being seen by junior clinical team members under the post holder’s supervision.

Support delivery of the emergency department’s key performance standards through motivated adherence to key standards and by seeking support and advice from within the wider emergency care team when required.

Write clear, concise and contemporaneous patient focused medical records

Practice with honesty and integrity and in full compliance with the GMC standards for good clinical practice

Actively participate in and support the department’s clinical research activity.

Actively participate in the department’s education and training program both in receiving and delivering education and training.

Actively participate in the departmental, hospital and trust wide clinical governance and patient safety activities.

Promote, and actively participate in the department's health and well-being at work programs.
