As the public face of our property at Barrington Court, you’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information, answer questions and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable visit. We welcome enthusiastic flexible people who are willing to support one another across the property.
Salary: £12.75 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Hours/working pattern: 585 hours per year. We anticipate 2 shifts of 7hours per week from February to October, and 2 days a month from November to February. Weekend and bank holiday working will be a requirement in this role.
This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.

Barrington Court is situated on the edge of Barrington village in South Somerset. It was the first estate and manor house that the National Trust acquired in 1907. The property has 2 manor houses, formal gardens inspired by Gertrude Jekyll, kitchen garden, lawns, avenues, orchards, arboretum, large book barn, shop, independent trading artisan workshops and café.The 16th Century Tudor Court House is currently closed to visitors for the Barrington Court Revival Project. The 17th Century Strode House is open to visitors on the ground floor.The property is currently open 7 days a week from mid February until the end of October and open weekends only from November to mid February.Investing in you, we want you to learn, discover and develop your career. What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you’ll be part of a welcome team working at Barrington Court. You will be an excellent team player helping to create a great place for your colleagues (staff and volunteers) to work in.
Great visitor experiences are in our nature, and we believe everyone should feel welcomed, appreciated and more engaged because of the excellent service you provide. This role would suit anyone with enthusiasm for delivering great customer service.
Day to day, you’ll deliver a great all-round customer service experience. You’ll be on hand answering queries and listen to what our visitors need so you can share the right information. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day they can.
You will highlight the benefits of membership and all that the local cluster of properties has to offer and contribute to fundraising through the sale of pin badges, books in our book barn and Gift Aid on entry tickets.
You will be happy working alone and, in a team, and have a flexible attitude. You will identify tasks, prioritise your time and check in with other team members. You will be conscientious and take pride in looking after the daily operation and presentation of the place you work each day.
