Your new role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Reactive Caretaker/Janitor to cover our Barnsley Schools account – You will be primarily based at one school location however you would be expected to be mobile across our 11 schools on the account as per school requirements.

This role will require a UK driving licence and your own vehicle for use, you will be able to claim milage and insurance through the business.



The salary is £13.72 per hour



The role will be 37.5 hours per week - Reactive Caretakers – 5:30am – 18:00pm ( within this time period) / Hours Per Week 37.5 / Shift pattern – Mon-Fri (52 weeks)

You will be responsible for:

To deliver defined and non-specific tasks.
To always undertake the role in a professional and safe manner following Amey’s Zero Code Policies and Procedures.
To work according to best practice guidelines I.E. ensuring the correct use of colour coded equipment.
To comply with Internal and External HSEQ requirements RAMs and COSHH.
Provide a maintenance service that delivers to our client contractual requirements.
Use of Amey approved chemicals, machinery, consumables and equipment only.
Operate machinery safely and in line with the guidelines and training provided.
To deliver good customer engagement ensuring client satisfaction
To report any concerns or issues to your People Manager immediately for action e.g. broken equipment.
Ensure that all duties are completed within the time provided to the Amey defined standards.
To attend and engage in briefings and training sessions, potential requirement of additional hours.
Carry out any other reasonable requests as directed by your People Manager.
Wear appropriate PPE & Uniform provided by Amey only.
To always conduct yourself in a professional manner.
To comply with Amey’s Key Holding policies and procedures, ensuring keys assigned to yourself are only used in line with your shifts and not shared with others.
To adhere to Lone Working policies and procedures where necessary.
To follow Emergency procedures in place at all times.
To follow the Escalation process in place/out of hours process.
To escalate any issues with intruder/fire alarm systems and panels.
To escalate and report any issues found during your shift via Helpdesk/Escalation where necessary.
Reactive caretaking to cover/open schools across the account, in the event of absence and sickness, as and when needed at the request of your People Manager.
Caretaking cover for planned holidays across the account.
When there is no need for reactive cover/cover for holiday, allocation to assist a school will be organised by your People Manager.
Ensure smooth running of the school premises, escalating issues to Helpdesk/Premises Manager.
Carrying out day-to-day DIY/maintenance and minor repairs (i.e., furniture fixtures, wall repairs).
To ensure heating, lighting and alarm systems are working properly.
Daily responsibility to check that all doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use.
To check the premises to guard against vandalism.
Arranging and reporting any required maintenance outside the day-to-day DIY/ minor repairs.
Daily management of employees on site to ensure site is open and ready, escalating any issues to the Premises Manager.
Arranging chairs and tables for meetings/assemblies\ Exam sets up and any other requested set ups and clearing away afterwards.
Completion of Mandatory/Statutory PPMs.
To communicate professionally with the school as the first point of call for Amey.
Completion of relevant Amey documentation/paperwork to a good standard (i.e, Contractor Inductions, Site access forms and reviewing of RAMS.
Competently use Microsoft Teams/Concept – tablets and phones
Regularly monitoring/responding to emails in a professional manner.
Required to use a personal vehicle and claim business mileage back though SAP Concur.
