Summary

The postholder plays a key role in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered acute care. The postholder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing initial assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with a wide range of medical and surgical emergencies. The department includes a resuscitation area, majors and minors zones, ambulatory care, and a Clinical Decision Unit. SHOs are expected to manage patients under senior supervision and participate actively in departmental teaching, handovers, and quality improvement initiatives. Key Duties: Assess and manage patients in all areas of the ED, including majors, minors, and resus. Perform practical procedures such as cannulation, suturing, and ECG interpretation. Work closely with consultants, registrars, nursing staff, and allied health professionals. Participate in regular clinical teaching, simulation sessions, and audit activities. Contribute to safe handover of care and accurate documentation. Additional Information:Charing Cross ED operates 24/7 and is supported by onsite specialties including acute medicine, general surgery, and neurology. The hospital is also a hub for stroke and neurosciences within the Trust. The role provides excellent exposure to a wide case mix and is ideal for trainees preparing for core or specialty training in emergency medicine or internal medicine.
