Join Our Team and Make a Real Difference!

At Wilderness Way, we create safe, supportive environments for children and young people. We’re looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our growing team and help maintain and improve the outdoor spaces at our homes across the Northeast.

What You’ll Do

  • Carry out grounds maintenance tasks including lawn care, hedge trimming, strimming, weed control, and leaf clearance.
  • Complete general grounds improvements such as fencing, repairing paving, and remodelling spaces.
  • Undertake preventative winter maintenance (e.g., clearing gutters, gullies, and drainage systems).
  • Assist with basic building maintenance when severe weather prevents external work.
  • Manage your own schedule of works, prioritising safety and quality.
  • Operate a variety of plant, machinery, and tools safely and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with the Estates team and contractors to ensure high standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Skilled in using grounds maintenance equipment (ride-on mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, etc.).
  • Practical experience in fencing, paving repairs, and general outdoor improvements.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Northeast.
  • Strong attention to detail, proactive approach, and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
  • Experience in child-focused environments (schools or care settings) is desirable.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary of £30,000 plus benefits and pension.
  • Company van, tools, plant, and workwear provided.
  • Permanent, full-time role with opportunities for training and development.
  • Be part of a team that makes a real difference to children’s lives.
