Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Mentor to join our SEN school team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs, helping them develop essential skills, build confidence, and achieve their full potential. This role involves working closely with students, teachers, and families to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored one-on-one and group support to students with SEN to promote their social, emotional, and academic development.
Assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and learning strategies.
Develop and deliver engaging activities that support students’ personal and educational growth.
Monitor and record students’ progress, behavior, and development, providing regular feedback to staff and parents.
Foster positive relationships with students to build their self-esteem, resilience, and independence.
Support students in developing life skills, social skills, and emotional regulation techniques.
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment conducive to learning.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, parents, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students.
Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing professional development.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a SEN setting.
Strong understanding of SEN needs and inclusive teaching strategies.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Empathy, patience, and a proactive attitude.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, SENCO qualification, or similar).
Experience working with specific needs such as autism, ADHD, or emotional behavioural difficulties.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and policies.
