Summary

Perform correct requested radiograph/CT scan (subject to holding relevant qualification). Process dental radiographs/ Cone Beam CTs : as per trust guidelines Participate in quality assurance audits for radiography service in line with IRMER and radiology QA Ensure IRMER is updated every 5 years as per IRMER guidelines Working within a minor oral surgery setting, providing chairside assistance under aseptic/sterile conditions. Completing trust based training and have a working knowledge of practicing within a theatre/ minor surgery setting. Scrubbing and circulating for minor oral and max fac skin surgery. Monitor, support and reassure patients: Report any changes in patient's condition that may require nursing/medical intervention. Give appropriate patient/ carer advice (written and verbal): Pre and postoperative care, instruction and advice on procedures/clinics relevant to the department including pain relief, prevention of bleeding, oral hygiene and maintenance of orthodontic appliances. Attend and support clinician in paediatric pre op assessment clinics, ensuring correct information is given and where necessary involve and refer to other members of the multidisciplinary team. Work autonomously within a records clinic, performing dental radiography and giving complex oral health information to patients returning for complex orthodontic/surgical procedures. Support the patient and their colleagues if there is a medical emergency: ensure maintain statutory training is kept updated and relevant Keep full, accurate and contemporaneous patient records: Tracking of notes from Medical Records, ensuring notes are then correctly prepared, including all relevant information, using knowledge of computer skills relevant to the department, where appropriate. Receive and document patients at the beginning of each clinic session and proceed as appropriate and to ensure that each aspect of the patients journey is accurately recorded. Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals: as is necessary including correct information to clerical staff to ensure orthodontic and maxillofacial follow up appointments are made in order for treatment to proceed effectively. Act as a mentor to new members of staff and students in the department., working towards formal mentorship/practice supervisor/assessor role. Delivery of specimens, notes and radiographs, etc., to relevant departments Maintain own training requirements: including trust statutory training and maintenance of own Continuing Professional Development in line with GDC and trust requirements. Work towards if not currently held further scopes of practice for dental nurses, such as oral health programmes, dental impression and any further role requirement subject to qualification. Ability to work flexibly Monday to Friday and also if needed over weekends subject to provision of service. Able to manage deteriorating patient in the department .
