Description
The Community Lawyer (Grade 10) plays a vital role in providing legal assistance and representation to individuals and groups within the community. This position requires a commitment to social justice and the desire to empower clients by helping them navigate legal challenges. We seek an enthusiastic lawyer who is adept at understanding and solving complex legal issues affecting marginalized groups, ensuring their voices are heard and rights are protected. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of various areas of law, including civil rights, housing, immigration, and family law. This role will involve not only direct client representation but also community education and outreach, working collaboratively with local organizations to build stronger, more informed communities. The Community Lawyer will participate in advocacy efforts aimed at influencing policy changes that address systemic inequities. Responsibilities
Provide legal representation and advocacy for clients in various legal matters such as housing, immigration, and family law.
Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to support client cases and community initiatives.
Develop and deliver educational workshops and training sessions on legal rights and resources available to community members.
Collaborate with community organizations to identify legal needs and promote access to justice.
Prepare and file legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs, while ensuring compliance with legal procedures.
Participate in outreach programs to raise awareness about available legal services and resources within the community.
Advocate for policy changes and reforms that address systemic issues affecting marginalized populations.
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction and a strong understanding of local laws.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in legal practice, preferably in community law or public interest law.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice and community service.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

End Time: 17:00
Pay Per Hour: £25.00
