We have an exciting part time Respiratory Physiotherapist within our Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service.

To work in the community as a member of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service, with responsibility for providing specialist assessment and treatment to patients with chronic respiratory disease. Patient conditions include Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease and Asthma. The aim of is to provide a holistic approach to:

Ø Maintain or improve symptoms

Ø Promote patient self-management

Ø Reduce the frequency of exacerbations

Ø Improve functional ability

Ø Enhance quality of life

Following comprehensive assessment, to provide specialist exercise therapy and education to patients referred to the Coastal Community Respiratory Service, Pulmonary rehabilitation team. To provide supervision and education of junior staff and undergraduate students on placement. To undertake clinical audit and service development as necessary.

Following appropriate training, complete oxygen assessments and prescription in line with line with clinical guidelines and local pathways.

CLINICAL

Aspects of work will include delivery of treatment as an individual practitioner or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

To undertake advanced assessment of patients with diverse or complex physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioural conditions in order to deliver appropriate exercise therapy.

To be responsible for safe and competent assessment and treatment of patients, following National and Departmental guidelines.

To manage and undertake audit & research in specific areas of clinical practice and service delivery.

Communicate with wider MDT’s, service users, carers, stakeholders, the public and their representatives, ensuring effective & accurate information is delivered.

To maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with trust guidelines.

To liaise regularly with the clinical specialist/team leader regarding treatment progression and on-going care of patients.

To undertake appropriate exercise assessments to help determine oxygen requirements for exercise.



PROFESSIONAL/LEADERSHIP

To assist supervision and development of junior staff / students.

To help in the provision of the department training programme.

To participate in continuing professional development.

To attend relevant training courses as identified and agreed with senior staff and managers during staff appraisal sessions.

To highlight any service delivery issues to the clinical specialist/team leader.

To participate in clinical audit as necessary
