JOB DESCRIPTION

Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I have Dystonia, which is similar to cerebral palsy.

I’m a cheerful, happy person who likes a good laugh. I’m very chatty and have an opinion on most things.

I’m an adventurous eater and I like to try out new recipes. I am not very good with spicy food.

I am a bookworm- I use my Kindle without assistance. I enjoy many genres, from fantasy to historical fiction to the occasional rom com. My favourite books are Six of Crows, Legendborn, Lessons in Chemistry, Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers and Weyward.

I love going to the cinema and the theatre. I am also passionate about watching Athletics and enjoy attending live events. I adore music. My favourite artists at the moment are Sabrina Carpenter, Maisie Peters, Olivia Rodrigo, Renée Rapp and Niall Horan.

PURPOSE OF JOB

I have just started my first full-time job after graduating from university. You will be helping me to be as independent as possible while I’m working. I work at a remote publishing company called Newgen KnowledgeWorks. You will assist me in meetings by repeating what I say and you will make me cups of tea to get me through the day.

PLACE OF WORK

Mainly at my house in Whitchurch, Cardiff.

HOURS OF WORK

Open to discussion. I will need a PA with from 7.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

RATE OF PAY

£14.50 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

You will be assisting me to get ready for work, which will involve getting me out of bed with my standing hoist, taking me to the toilet and getting me dressed. You will then prepare my breakfast, feed it to me and clean my teeth. Once I start working, you will be on call if I need a drink to go to the toilet. My speech can be hard to understand, but you can tune in fairly quickly. But you will also need to be present for meetings to repeat anything my colleagues don’t understand. You will prepare my lunch and feed it to me. At the end of the working day, you will give me a shower and I’ll probably have a snack and a cup of tea. I have an electric wheelchair, so I can get around independently. However, sometimes my arm tenses up in stressful situations, so you may need to drive my chair across the road.

You will receive training for all these aspects of my care.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

You will need:

-To be female due to personal care.

To be physically fit, calm, patient and reliable

-Good organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative

-To have a good sense of humour

-A mature and responsible attitude

-Good communication skills

-To be a non-smoker

-To be fluent in English.

-To be clean and tidy in both your appearance and ways.

-Driver (Preferred but not essential)

ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probation period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid 4 weekly. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
