About the Client
Charnwood Borough Council’s Regulatory Services division is responsible for ensuring compliance with licensing legislation and delivering high‑quality services to the local community. The Licensing Section covers statutory regulation of alcohol, gambling, scrap metal, hackney carriage and private hire licensing, alongside other associated duties.

The Role
As Licensing Support Officer, you will assist the Licensing Manager and team in carrying out licensing and registration duties in line with legislation and council policies. This is a varied role requiring attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Key Responsibilities
Receive and analyse new applications, variations and transfers under the Licensing Act 2003 and Gambling Act 2005

Process applications for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle/Driver Licences, ensuring documentation validity (DBS, medical, DVLA)

Prepare and issue licences, badges and plates in accordance with procedures

Provide information and respond to enquiries from applicants, colleagues, elected members and the public via phone, email and face‑to‑face

Liaise with internal and external agencies including Police and Environmental Protection

Maintain accurate records (manual and electronic) and assist in preparing reports for licensing panel hearings

Record and balance all monies received within Licensing

Stay up to date with legislative and organisational changes to provide accurate information

Candidate Requirements
Experience in administrative or clerical roles, ideally within a regulatory or licensing environment

Strong organisational and record‑keeping skills

Ability to analyse documentation for accuracy and compliance

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Confidence in liaising with stakeholders at all levels

Ability to manage sensitive information securely and in line with council policies
