Summary

Hours: 39 hours per week

Location: Remote/home working with requirement to attend meetings and work at The Action Group’s Prentice Centre Office in Edinburgh, when required. Travel to this location from home is not covered.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be an experienced HR professional who can balance sound technical knowledge with a calm, people-centred approach. This role is about supporting managers, guiding colleagues through challenging situations, and upholding our commitment to high-quality, person-centred support.

You’ll need strong written and spoken communication skills, confidence in advising on employment matters, and the ability to manage a varied caseload with accuracy and discretion. You should be organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving HR environment. Previous HR advisory or management experience is essential, along with up-to-date employment law knowledge.

About the role
We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor to join our committed and friendly Human Resources team. In this role, you will provide high-quality HR support to managers across The Action Group, ensuring that our people practices are fair, consistent, and aligned with our values. You’ll play a key part in helping managers navigate employee relations, supporting our HR processes, and contributing to a positive experience for our colleagues across the organisation.

We are a collaborative team of HR practitioners who care deeply about the work we do and the impact it has on the services we provide. We are looking for someone who is confident advising on HR matters, able to manage a varied caseload, and comfortable using their judgement in fast-moving situations. You will need excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to build trusted relationships with managers and colleagues at all levels.

Role and Responsibilities
As an HR Advisor at The Action Group, you will play a key role in supporting our managers and colleagues across the organisation. Your responsibilities will include:

Providing expert HR advice and guidance to managers on policies, procedures, employment law, and employee relations matters.

Supporting the management of employee relations cases, including conduct, performance, and absence issues.

Coaching and developing managers to improve their people management skills and understanding of HR best practice.

Contributing to the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and strategies.

Maintaining accurate HR records and producing reports from our HR information systems.

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, governing bodies, and organisational policies, including immigration, sponsorship, and social care sector requirements.
Supporting HR projects and initiatives as required.

Acting as a champion for equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of your work.

Handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
