Summary

Make decisions where precedents do not exist, where appropriate without recourse to others, and to advise and support colleagues where standard protocols do not apply. Make and receive referrals as appropriate. Complete advanced history taking, and physical examinations as required with patient group. Regularly undertake clinical supervision for specialist practice area. Work within the Professional code of conduct. Communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, such as service users, carers, other teams, third sector and voluntary organisations. Communicate effectively across a wide variety of settings, using tact and diplomacy in response to situations that may be complex and sensitive and may have resulted from conflict. Providing advice and use their initiative and follow organisational procedures in routine and crisis situations. Apply communication skills which take account of communication needs and differences, in order to plan, deliver and evaluate care. Apply enhanced communication skills both oral and written to communicate information within records and reports. This may also include the need to respond to and offer reassurance to questions and concerns from a variety of groups, such as service users, carers and other staff/teams. Comply with and implement local and Trust policies and procedures regarding appropriate communication. Be required to lead client reviews within the multi-disciplinary team and act as an advocate for service users. Be responsible for the assessment of a clients mental health and physical care needs. In collaboration with the client, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care to meet those needs. Manage a defined case load, acting as care co-ordinator, taking part in the implementation of CPA, providing a nursing assessment and carrying out nursing skills as appropriate to the field of eating disorders. To include ongoing assessment and monitoring of the clients diet, weight and eating related behaviours. Contribute to the Severe and Enduring Eating Disorder pathway for clients with severe and enduring eating disorders through close monitoring of the clients physical health, conducting physical observations and weight monitoring. Arrange referrals for and advise clients on the required frequency of investigations such as bone density scans and monitor the clients compliance with nutritional supplements and other prescribed medication. Calculate/interpret Body Mass Index and respond as appropriate; ensure tests to monitor the clients physical health parameters are carried out when required and respond to test results appropriately. Provide support to the pathway for clients whose physical health needs are being monitored, by acting as care co-ordinator to those clients who are not suitable for psychological therapy. To include working with clients who are severely underweight but are not being treated in an inpatient setting, working flexibly to accommodate working with clients immediately after discharge. Liaising with ward nursing staff to ensure there is continuity of care for patients being admitted to and discharged from the inpatient unit.
