We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
You will deliver evidence-based interventions and action plans with children, young people, and families to address offending and risk-taking behaviours, aiming to reduce entry into the criminal justice system and prevent reoffending. Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies, you will implement personalised support packages that meet the needs of children, young people, and families, including prevention cases, out-of-court resolutions, Referral Orders, Early Help, and AssetPlus or other relevant assessments.
The role involves ensuring that assessments, case management records, and other documentation are completed to a high standard in line with national and local requirements and within agreed timescales.
A strong commitment to restorative approaches is essential, ensuring that victims’ needs are met throughout the process.
The role also requires making effective use of community assets to achieve sustainable positive change for children and families, incorporating these resources as part of a targeted ‘step down’ offer where appropriate. You will ensure the timely exchange of relevant information between support providers and actively engage families, children, and young people in all assessments and planning. Additionally, you will work closely with colleagues in Youth Justice Service and partners to develop strong links within one of the seven neighbourhoods to promote integrated support and positive outcomes.
About you:
The role requires an RQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience within Health, Education, Police, Probation, or Youth Work. Candidates must have experience working with young people who offend or other vulnerable groups and their families, often presenting complex needs and challenging behaviours. A strong understanding of asset-based and place-based approaches is essential, enabling individuals and communities to build on their strengths and lived experiences to achieve positive change.
Knowledge of key areas such as NEET, homelessness, looked-after children, mental health, and frameworks like Early Help and AssetPlus is required, alongside experience with victims and restorative practices. Applicants should demonstrate commitment to anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice, safeguarding procedures, and multi-agency child protection guidelines.
Excellent communication, engagement, and report-writing skills are vital, as is the ability to empathise, build trust, and maintain professional boundaries while being approachable and confident to challenge when necessary. A driving licence or ability to travel effectively is needed, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays to meet the needs of children and families is essential.
