Summary

Having received the necessary Phlebotomy training and achieved an appropriate level of competence, to take blood samples from patients, under supervision, which will assist in the provision of routine analysis of specimens within Pathology in accordance with laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Phlebotomy training manual. To maintain high standards of safety ensuring the Health & Safety of self, other staff, patients, and visitors to the laboratory. To perform phlebotomy ensuring minimal distress and discomfort to patients always. To ensure high standards of accuracy when recording, transcribing, and checking patient demographics in particular the labelling of blood tubes. To seek advice from senior staff in response to patient enquiries and offer appropriate guidance strictly according to departmental policies. To actively participate in team meetings and to inform effectively both verbally and at hand-over. To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers to obtain consent for venepuncture to take place.
