JOB DESCRIPTION
Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 15-year-old boy living in the St. Fagans area of Cardiff. I have autism and can communicate in a limited way, but I am a very happy, friendly, and sociable person. I rarely exhibit challenging behaviours and am generally very compliant. However, I have limited awareness of danger, so I need a Personal Assistant to help keep me safe.
I enjoy visiting parks, cafés, going swimming, attending the gym, and spending time at soft play centres and outdoors. I also love animals -although I am scared of dogs.
PURPOSE OF JOB
I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support me both at home and out in the community. The role involves helping me enjoy social and recreational activities, meet new people, and stay safe. At times, support may also be needed at home with activities such as gardening or playing games.
I’m looking for someone who can be a companion - someone to chat with, interact with, and help me feel more confident integrating into the community.
PLACE OF WORK
In my home
Out and about in the community
HOURS OF WORK
3 hours on Saturdays during term time
Occasional weekday support during school holidays
Flexible working times by mutual agreement
RATE OF PAY
£14.70 per hour
Travel mileage for community outings is negotiable
TASKS INVOLVED
Support me in safely accessing community activities
Talk and interact with me in a friendly and engaging way
Keep me occupied, engaged through fun and meaningful activities
Prompt and support me in using the toilet safely (Note: I do not require personal hygiene care)
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Friendly, caring, trustworthy, and patient
A driver with access to a car (essential)
Experienced in working with children (desirable)
Reliable and punctual
Someone who is chatty and fun to be around
Understanding and supportive of autism
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A probation period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid 4 weekly. You will receive 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro rata). You will be required to apply for a DBS check at no expense to you.
Please Note: Dewis Centre for Independent Living is acting on behalf of a third party and will not be your employer or be liable for any issues arising out of your employment should you be offered employment.
Thank you.
